Hiking

Hiking happiness in the Engadin

Exploring the Engadin on foot has its very own charm. Over 580 kilometers of well-signposted hiking trails lead through a landscape full of contrasts – from green alpine meadows to rugged rock faces and centuries-old glaciers.

If you prefer company, book a guided tour with our guide Johnny Beyeler. The mountain railroads take you to the Corviglia/Piz Nair, Corvatsch/Furtschellas, Diavolezza or Muottas Muragl areas – and take you directly to panoramic high-altitude trails that feel like a walk through postcard scenery.

Climbing & mountaineering

In love with the mountains! Climbing, Bouldering and mountaineering

The Engadin is the right place for those who want to go high. Numerous three-thousand-metre peaks offer a variety of tours for experienced summiteers – but less experienced mountaineers will also find safe routes to gain their first summit experiences. The offer ranges from easy hikes and alpine routes to challenging high-altitude tours through the Bernina region, past crevasses. There are tours to suit every ability level.

Via ferratas, rock faces and climbing gardens in unspoiled nature also make the Engadin exciting for climbers. Whether free climbing, via ferratas with different levels of difficulty such as La Resgia or Piz Trovat I and II or the climbing garden – an experience for every level with rewarding views of the mountains. The climbing and bouldering hall in S-Chanf offers a good alternative in bad weather or for technical training. The Pontresina mountaineering school organizes guided tours and courses where beginners can learn the correct climbing technique under professional guidance.

Good preparation is important for tours at high altitudes. Professional mountain guides accompany you safely to the summits, to cozy mountain huts with regional food and back down to the valley.

Bathing lakes

Summer, sun, lake – swimming in St. Moritz

On hot summer days, the romantic Lej da Staz and the hidden Lej Marsch around St. Moritz are perfect for a dip.

While at Lej da Staz you can reach the clear water via wooden footbridges and enjoy the sun on a jetty, Lej Marsch with its sandy beach and barbecue areas offers relaxation close to nature – both wonderful for families.

Water sports

Stand-Up Paddling

Sailing, surfing, paddling and rafting! When the legendary Maloja wind picks up from midday on clear summer days, the high season for water sports begins on Lake St. Moritz and Lake Sils. With 3 to 6 Beaufort, it makes for excellent sailing weather – at an altitude of 1,800 meters! And all this against the impressive mountain backdrop of the Grisons Alps. Where else can you experience this unique combination?

The early morning hours on the Engadin lakes, on the other hand, belong to silence: canoes, kayaks and SUPs glide almost silently across the glistening blue – an invitation to let go and take a deep breath. Those looking for more adrenaline can follow the wild course of the Inn. River rafting offers rapid rapids, natural waterfalls and wild landscapes. Lake Silvaplana offers a lively mix: windsurfers and kitesurfers set bright accents in the alpine landscape with their colorful sails.

Fishing

A good catch – fishing in the Engadin

In the season from May to September, the Engadin lakes offer excellent conditions for anglers. You can fish for grayling, brown trout and char. Those who have mastered fly fishing will find real insider tips at Lej Nair or Lej Pitschen.
